Cathy Warren
Psychosynthesis Therapist
Portland Road, Hove BN3
About Me
I have practiced as a therapist since qualifying in 2010. I came to this work after many years in organisations as a coach, trainer, and consultant specialising in working with conflict and change.
My approach is integrative, meaning I can use elements from different approaches to support our work. My core Diploma training was in Psychosynthesis, a holistic framework which gives a key place to creativity and the imagination, the wisdom of our body as well as our mind, seeing them as routes to our inner wisdom and sense of purpose. Since qualifying I have undertaken further trainings including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Compassion-focused Therapy, body and imagery-based approaches to trauma healing. All these may play a part in how we work together, this is ultimately down to your own aims and the way you would like to work.
Alongside my one to one work I also work with groups, as a trainer and as a therapeutic group facilitator, specialising in mental health, life balance and ageing.
For myself, creativity, music and the arts are important, as is time in nature, and I try to make time in life for these.
Qualification, Experience & Background
Prior to training as a counsellor I had an MSc in Organisation Psychology from Birkbeck College, University of London.
I gained my post graduate diploma in counselling in 2010, which qualified me for full membership of the BACP. I went on to gain fully accredited status with the BACP in 2013. I have retained this status and undertake regular continuing professional development far in excess of the amount required by the BACP.
I have undertaken significant training courses in
- Mindfulness ( trained as Mindfulness Teacher, level 1)
- Imagework (Dina Glouberman)
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
- Compassion Focused Therapy
- Internal Family Systems
- NLP Master Practitioner
- Trauma Treatment - integrative (Janina Fisher)
- Trauma Treatment - somatic experiencing (Peter Levine)
As a counsellor I have worked with young people in a school setting, in a service for older people, in a service for carers, and in private practice. I have also provided coaching and wellbeing/ mental health workshops in a variety of organisations ranging from government departments to private industry. Sometimes the work has been short term / time limited and sometimes longer term. I have also been manager of a counselling service for older people and worked with older people's mental health projects through Age UK.
